Southern Spotted Velvet Gecko- Junior

Well if you think Tyrell is cute, then his offspring are even cuter.  The baby Southern Spotted Velvet Geckos are darker in colour with quite bright spots.  I found this one in the box that contains my boot cleaning gear.  As you can see from the photos how small the baby is when compared to the tin of Dubbin boot polish, maybe just over an inch in length, or around 30mm.  They grow quite quickly, so by September or October of this year this baby will be big enough to shed his immature colours and take on the mature pattern of an adult gecko.  You can see in the extremely...

Southern Spotted Velvet Gecko

Our house is home to several geckos, most of which are the Southern Spotted Velvet Gecko (Oedura tryoni).  Now the one that currently inhabits the living area is known as Tyrell and has quite the personality.  During the day he hides in behind the furniture or under the fridge, which is his preferred spot during winter as the condenser keeps it nice and cosy.  Occasionally another gecko tries to move in on his territory and that’s when the hissyfits started, and it can quite noisy as they fight it out (or it could be just mating season??). Azure Kingfisher

We have quite the bird life around the property, everything from the small Wrens to the occasional Wedgetail Eagle that soars on the thermals.  The office windows are sometimes mistaken as being a through passage and every so often a poor bird is left sitting outside the office stunned as to why he couldn’t fly through.  This isn’t always the case, as the Willy Wagtail likes to sit on the outside chairs and sing to his reflection, or the Eastern Yellow Robin will have a hissyfit at his reflection during mating season.
